Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue helped put out a house on fire early Saturday morning in Storm Mountain Ranch. There were no injuries, as no one was in the home. Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue says they don’t know what caused the fire but they will investigate with Routt County Sheriff’s Office. Oak Creek Fire Protection also helped put out that fire.
Flu season is here and the CDC is reminding to get vaccinated for influenza, saying it is especially important for those at high risk such as pregnant people and children. Check with your local provider or the local public health office.
The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets Tuesday morning. One agenda item for commissioners says, “Ride the Rockies Facility Use Agreement for Fairgrounds.” Ride the Rockies is a multi-day cycling event with over 2,000 riders, stopping in different Colorado towns over six days. Ride the Rockies is scheduled for June 9-14 next summer. The route will be announced Jan. 13. We reached out to Ride the Rockies race organizers last week and did not hear back yet.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Neil Binder has a staff report on a contract amendment for the demolition of the old Moffat County Courthouse, and a bid recommendation for baseball diamond fencing at Loudy-Simpson Park.
Tuesday afternoon, Moffat County Commissioners are meeting with the board of Moffat County Public Health at 1:30 Tuesday, Dec. 12, for the 4th quarter meeting.
Routt County Clerk & Recorder’s office reports that in the November election, there were 9,323 votes cast across Routt County. The number of voters in Moffat County was 3,671. Both counties are reporting zero discrepancies found in the Risk Limiting Audit.
The Clerk & Recorder’s offices in both Routt and Moffat counties want to thank local community members who served as election judges.

Congratulations to Marsha Daughenbaugh of Routt County CattleWomen. She is being honored as the 2023 CattleWoman of the Year. Daughenbaugh is a rancher and longtime volunteer throughout the Routt County community. She and her husband, Doc,” have run the multi-generational Rocking C Bar Ranch since 1973.

The poster each year is unveiled by Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty. Posters are $15 each and will benefit Steamboat Springs Winter Sports. The original is on display at Pine Moon Fine Art Gallery.

Four Steamboat Springs Drama Troupe students have qualified for the International Thespian Festival in Indiana in June. They are Emma Griffith, Ruby Frank, Rowan Toldstedt, and Bryson Lee. There were 36 Steamboat Springs High School students competing and participating in workshops at the regional competition in Denver over the weekend.

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club hosted national Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping competitions over the weekend at Howelsen Hill. Local athletes making the podium include Estella Hassrick, Ella Wilson, and Haley Brabec. Also Jason Colby took first place in the HS100, tying the hill record with a jump of 105.5 meters.
Coach Todd Wilson (holding the bowl) was honored with The Halstead Award by the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Rocky Mountain Division, for his contributions to the sports. The two-time Olympian has been helping with the local program for 30 years.

A Celebration of Light is tonight, Dec. 11, at Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs. Light a candle and celebrate the memory of someone you love. The Celebration of Light starts at 5:30 p.m. in Library Hall. There will also be hot soups and chili. This is free for everyone in the community.
