Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue and Steamboat Springs Police helped save eight people from Carbon Monoxide poisoning Thursday. They were in a four-plex townhome rental on Aspen Way that didn’t have any carbon monoxide detectors, which are required by Colorado law on each level of your home.
EIGHT PEOPLE ARE SAFE TODAY AFTER CARBON MONOXIDE INCIDENT
A 46-year-old Steamboat Springs man hit and killed some cows on Hwy 131 north of Oak Creek last night. Colorado State Patrol says “four or five” cows died in the crash. The driver was OK.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife has confirmed that wounds on the calf in Jackson County Wednesday are consistent with wolf depredation. Rancher Don Gittleson is eligible for compensation if he submits a claim. CPW says discussions about whether the two collared wolves in Jackson County fit the definition of “Chronically depredating” have not yet occurred. If that happens, CPW could use lethal management against those wolves.

Wild Blue Gondola is officially open bottom to top as of today, with a big celebration at the base this morning.
The SSWSC Liman Mountain Center is officially open. It is an instructional space for older Winter Sports Club kids and coaches, with a workout area in the Torian Plum Building near the base. The space was donated by Linda and Les Liman of Twin Enviro. Les Liman used to be on the Winter Sports Club board.

Santa is saddling up and riding a horse over to the base of Steamboat Resort Saturday. He’ll be there from 2-4 p.m. Then the Holiday Skating Party is from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, and the Steamboat Holiday Market is in the afternoon. Dance and enjoy the afternoon with DJ ShanDawg.
Saturday is Match Day for United Way of the Yampa Valley and Steamboat Resort. United Way will be at the base from 1-4 p.m. The ski area will match up to $5,000 raised. CNCC in Craig invites the community to a holiday party and visit from Santa. The fun is on the Craig campus from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15.
Also, CNCC has announced it will add a Cross Country team to its roster of sports, starting in the fall of 2024.
Handel’s Messiah is being performed by the Yampa Valley Choral Society tonight and tomorrow. It is sold out.

Shop with a Cop is Sunday, Dec. 17, at Walmart in Steamboat Springs. The wrestling teams from Hayden, Steamboat Springs and Moffat County are competing at a wrestling tournament in Grand Junction today and Saturday. The Soroco and Moffat County Girls wrestling teams are competing in Greeley.
In basketball…
The Moffat County boys host Middle Park and the girls are at a tournament in Basalt today and tomorrow. Bella Vanzo is a sophomore for the Bulldogs who plays JV but suits up for Varsity.

Partners for Youth in Moffat County is inviting middle school and high school kids to a 5th Quarter Cornhole Tournament, with food, fun and prizes. It will be in the Moffat County High School Gym after the home basketball game tonight, which should be about 9 p.m.
The Steamboat Sailors Basketball team is on the road this weekend, with away games against Centaurus tonight and Lewis Palmer Saturday afternoon. Brady Adams is a Senior for the Sailors.
“The team is looking good. We have a lot of potential. I feel like we have a really good opportunity to go down and win some games and start out the season strong.”
The Steamboat Springs Alpine Ski Team competes at Loveland Ski Area on Friday.
The Craig Youth Hockey Association is hosting the annual ‘Tis the Season Hockey tournament today through the weekend, Dec. 15-17. It’s at the ice arena at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig.
Finally, South Routt Elementary School held their Winter Concert last night.
