The snowy weather delayed seven flights into Yampa Valley Regional Airport Tuesday. Inbound flights on Tuesday were booked with a 98% load factor with 1,713 passengers arriving into the regional airport in Hayden. Fourteen flights are scheduled to fly into Yampa Valley Regional airport throughout the day today, from eight cities. You can check flights and arrivals at FlySteamboat.com

Watch for smoke around Steamboat Springs. The Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue wildland crew will be doing some prescribed burns of slash piles on Emerald Mountain and around the Mt. Werner Water Treatment facility. This is a safe time to do it with all of the recent snow. The fire department is working with Routt County Environmental Health. The air quality has to be good or it has to be snowing for it to happen.

TWO PRESCRIBED BURNS PLANNED AROUND STEAMBOAT SPRINGS

Four people have applied for the office of county judge for Moffat County. The applicants are Jay Cranmer, James Hesson and Nichole Cristee who are all from Craig, and Jennifer Hoag of Maybell. The nominating commission will meet to interview and select a nominee for appointment by the governor on Jan. 12. The vacancy was created by the Honorable Brittany A. Schneider’s appointment to District Court.

Where are the wolves? We have asked Colorado Parks and Wildlife to give any update on the general direction of where the ten have traveled since being released last week in Grand and Summit counties, as ranchers and locals have said they have spotted them. Finally, in a response Tuesday afternoon, CPW sent a link to the Wolf Sighting Form on their website, for anyone who sees a wolf.

The new Mahogany Ridge and Fish Creek Canyon areas at Steamboat Resort should open sometime early in January 2024. The ski area is requesting locals to be especially aware of the boundaries this year. Here’s Hanna Albertson with Steamboat Resort.

“But this terrain is really extreme. It’s very advanced. Even if folks have been out in that area before and they might feel like they are familiar with that terrain, we might be having our teams out there at any given time.”

Mahogany Ridge and Fish Creek Canyon are also more avalanche prone. Steamboat Ski Patrol will be using explosives for avalanche mitigation which is also why trail closures need to be respected and why conditions aren’t safe in a closed area. Please respect all trail closures as a violation could result in a loss of skiing and/or riding privileges and possibly a fine.

Fish Creek Canyon and Mahogany Ridge has 655 acres of advanced and extreme terrain. It depends on the snow when the area will open.

STEAMBOAT RESORT REQUESTS RESPECT OF BOUNDARIES IN NEW AREAS

Tune in to Harvey’s Huddle Wednesday. Keenan Hayes is in the house! The World Champion Bareback Rider is on the air with Brian Harvey and Kody May from 5-6 p.m. That’s KTYV 105.7 Sports on FM.

Check out what’s happening in the Yampa Valley on the Community Calendar on our website.
