Daniel Domin was in court again Thursday with a new bond set for an alleged parole violation from the felony stalking conviction last March. Judge Michael O’Hara added another $50K bond to the three other bonds of $560K, related to the alleged arson, alleged violation of probation, and standoff with police on New Year’s Eve. If convicted of violating parole, Judge O’Hara said Domin could go to prison for up to four years. Domin is in court again next Tuesday.

Regarding consideration of bond, Judge O’Hara said Domin does not have any failures to appear, and he believes he will appear in court. He also considered the significant amount of bond set in the other cases. Judge O’Hara said he is also concerned about community safety, should Domin bond out.

“The court has grave concerns about the community safety risks if Mr. Domin is permitted to be released from custody without specific and significant conditions of bond.”

Judge O’Hara also said Domin’s family members were at his previous trial and they did not ask the court to be punitive to Domin. Judge O’Hara says they had asked the court to consider Domin’s mental health needs, his military service, and to give him another chance.

“His experience with firearms, his possession of firearms, his possession of significant quantities of ammunition, coupled with his history of threats to kill and harm other people, including relatives, his close relatives including his parents, causes the court to conclude that Mr. Domin also should be subject to a significant financial condition of bond in this case.”

A special gift was given to the Shaw family over the holidays, as a community effort. It’s their old, well-used child’s firetruck, that was completely transformed by some caring locals.

The Shaw family in North Routt lost their mom, Sancy, in a car crash on I-70, on Christmas Eve in 2018. Their daughter, Charlee, was also injured. This little firetruck was a gift to the family from Sancy’s parents, Keith and Bonnie Florquist. It was very worn out and Brett Shaw put it out in the dumpster.

“It had many years of love and many years of abuse. It was all busted up. They had basically literally ran the wheels off of the thing.”

Stu Koci is a Firefighter in North Routt and he saw it and decided he would get it fixed, with help from Steamboat Lumber, where he works. So he pulled it out of the dumpster and got others in the community to replace the parts, Scott Belton sandblasted it, and they got it fixed up.

“They basically treated it like a regular car and they stripped it down, and brought it back to its original glory.”

Terry Paulsen got it at Russell’s Auto Salon where they painted it so that it looks brand new.

“I thought it turned out great, for a family that deserves it.”

Stu presented the firetruck back to the Shaw family for the holidays. Shaw says it reminds the family of a very sweet time in their life.

“And Stu was able to, through a lot of people, give us a piece of that back. So it was a real special treat for us.”
