Daniel Domin has been ordered to undergo a Competency Evaluation while in custody at the Routt County Jail. The 39-year-old is in jail on charges involving alleged arson, warrant and probation violations, and a standoff with law enforcement on New Year’s Eve in Steamboat Springs. Domin’s current combined bonds are at $610,000. His next court date is at 3 p.m. on Feb. 27.

James H. Hesson has been appointed to the Moffat County Court in the 14th Judicial District. This vacancy was created by the Hon. Brittany A. Schneider’s appointment to the District Court and is effective immediately. Hesson has been a Deputy District Attorney in the district since 2017.
Lower-income electricity customers can now apply to receive two years of credits off their electric bill from the Rays Up Community Solar Garden. It’s all through Yampa Valley Electric Association which owns and operates the solar garden. This is for any YVEA member in their service territory. The Community Budget Center in Craig is processing and evaluating the applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Proof of income is required.

Thursday, Feb. 1, is National Unclaimed Property Day. The state has a website where you can check to see if you are on the list because you are owed money. It might be from unpaid wages, uncashed checks, or a gift certificate. To make a claim, you’ll have to send in a copy of your drivers license and other identification. But it is easy to check if you’re on the list. The website is Colorado.gov/treasury https://treasury.colorado.gov/

Routt County 4-H youth from Oak Creek, Hayden, and Steamboat Springs have been in Denver this week for 4-H Day at the State Capitol. They participated in leadership workshops and attended the 4-H Day proclamation in the Colorado House and Senate.
4-H STUDENTS FROM ROUTT COUNTY VISIT THE STATE CAPITOL
The DECA and Future Business Leaders of America students from Moffat County High School have been at the district competition in Grand Junction. The 19 members brought home 30 awards with half of them first place finishes.
High school seniors and college students can apply for local scholarships in Routt and Moffat counties. School counselors have the details for the many opportunities available. Yampa Valley Community Foundation also has a link to apply for over 30 of their scholarships for college or trade school or studying abroad, for students in both counties. UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center has a new CT Scanner, purchased through philanthropic contributions and strategic capital. Last year, there were 7,058 scans performed. The newer technology makes scans quicker, improves the image quality and can make patient doses more specific.
In 2023, the five scans performed the most were:
- CT abdomen and pelvis with contrast
- CT head/brain without contrast
- CT chest with contrast
- CT angiography neck without & with contrast
- CT angiography head without & with contrast
The Oak Creek Town Board meets at 6 p.m. tonight. One report is from Yampa Valley Housing Authority and solutions they are developing to address Steamboat’s housing crisis. It includes updates on the Mid Valley Development and Brown Ranch. The board will also consider signing a Letter of Support for the proposed Sarvis Creek Wilderness Area Expansion Project which would add 7,200 acres to the wilderness area.
Registration for the Winter Carnival Street Events opens at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, Friday, Feb. 2. The capacity for most horse events is 40 participants, and those spots fill up very quickly. The Shovel Race has five participants. A link to register is on our website and on the Steamboat Chamber’s website. Winter Carnival is Feb. 7-11. Registration for the non-horse events will be the day of the event at the registration tent located in front of 720 Fusion Fresh.
