A federal initiative called the Economic Recovery Corps Fellowship will utilize pandemic-recovery funds to support and pay fellows to work with rural communities on economic development projects. A local group was selected out of 500 applicants to receive a fellow. The group is the Routt County Economic Development Partnership and the Northwest Colorado Development Council, which supports Routt, Moffat, and Rio Blanco counties.

Local businesswoman Sasha Nelson was matched for this fellowship from more than 1,500 candidates. The fellowship pays for 2.5 years for Nelson to do the work.

Horse trainers are needed to participate in the Meeker Mustang Makeover. Twenty-five are needed, and ten will be ages ten to 17. The trainers receive a wild American Mustang and have 120 days to train it where it will then be presented on Aug. 24 at the Meeker Mustang Makeover. They are then auctioned off to a new home, and the trainers win big money and scholarships. Apply before April 1. Pickup day for the horses is April 27 at the fairgrounds in Meeker. This year’s horses are from the Piceance and Sand Wash Basin Herds, and are currently being held by the Bureau of Land Management. This is the 5th year for the Meeker Mustang Makeover.
