It’s very busy on Lincoln Avenue today with different groups creating snow sculptures for the 111th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival. The theme this year is “Snowplace like home.”
We visited some of the snow sculpting groups in front of the historic Routt County Courthouse to see what they were creating. Groups of high school kids were very busy as well, including four SSHS Seniors creating the “Frosty Fiesta.”
Vote on your favorite snow sculptures @Steamboat Creates on Facebook and Instagram. Voting closes Sunday night.
Steamboat Creates has more on the history of the Winter Carnival Snow Sculptures on their website.
“Winter Carnival, founded in 1913, is a community-wide tradition celebrating all things winter. Hosted by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Winter Carnival brings Steamboat together for a week of celebration during the depths of winter. High school students and the community at large are invited to carve snow sculptures that decorate Lincoln Avenue on February 7th and 8th. We invite you to be a part of this fun and creative event that is viewed by thousands of visitors each year. Student teams can win great PRIZES from our fabulous sponsors! There is also a 1st place prize for the community teams that participate. In addition, Steamboat Creates will serve lunch and hot chocolate to all of the teams on carving day.”
Here are some of the creations that are being built downtown this afternoon.
