
The Presidential Primary is March 5 in Colorado. Here is a list of important dates for you to be aware of, courtesy of Routt County Clerk & Recorder Jenny Thomas. But these dates are statewide so they affect all voters in all counties.
- Monday, Feb. 12, ballots for the March 5th Presidential Primary election begin to be mailed to voters. It takes time to process through the mail system so look for your ballot toward the end of the week into the beginning of the following week.
- Monday, Feb. 12, is the last day for voters who are affiliated with a political party to change or withdraw their affiliation if they wish to vote in a different party’s primary election for the March 5th Presidential Primary Election. You can update your voter registration at www.govotecolorado.gov. or come on into the Clerk’s Office in your county to fill out a voter registration form. Link to change voter registration
- Unaffiliated voters will receive both Democratic and Republican ballots. You may only choose one party to vote and return. Voting and returning both ballots will disqualify your vote.
- The Voter Service and Polling Center will open on February 26. In Routt County, this will be located in the Community Room of the Health and Human Services building at 136 6th Street Steamboat. At the polling center, you can update your registration, obtain a replacement ballot, vote on a machine, or drop off your voted ballot.
- The Voter Service and Polling Center for Moffat County is in the new courthouse building at 1198 W. Victory Way in Craig.
- Additional ballot drop-off locations for Routt County voters will be located at the Hayden Town Hall, Oak Creek Town Hall, Yampa Town Hall, and Clark Store during their regular business hours. There are also two secure drop boxes, open 24 hours and under video surveillance located in the alley behind the Historic Courthouse downtown Steamboat and the parking lot of the Sheriff’s office at 2025 Shield Dr.
- In Moffat County, there is a 24-hour Election Drop Box at the East Entrance of the new courthouse building.
- All ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on election day, March 5. Postmarks do not count.
- The March 5th Presidential Primary will be the first of three elections administered by the Routt County Clerk in 2024. If you are affiliated and are interested in serving as an election judge in the June Primary and/or November Presidential elections you must sign up through your party caucuses. For party caucus information you must contact the Republican and Democratic party chairs. If you are unaffiliated you need to contact the County Clerk.
