Ballots will be sent starting today for the March 5th Presidential Primary. Today is also the last day for voters who are affiliated with a political party to change or withdraw that affiliation if they want to vote in a certain party’s primary on March 5. Your voter registration can be updated online at www.GoVoteColorado.com
Unaffiliated voters will receive BOTH Democratic and Republican ballots. You may only vote and return ONE of those ballots.
IMPORTANT ELECTION DATES FOR THE MARCH 5TH PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY
The Town of Yampa is having an election on April 2. There is one uncontested candidate for mayor, and that is Stacey Geilert. Three people are running for two seats on the Yampa Board of Trustees. They are Amy Kindsvater, Jonathan Cave, and Ken Montgomery.
Moffat County Sheriff KC Hume recently helped with a distressed passenger on an airline flight to California. A passenger needed help and Sheriff Hume offered his assistance until the plane could land and the person was taken away with the local Emergency Medical Services team. Sheriff Hume is the newest member of the Yampa Valley Regional Airport Team.
The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets at 8:30 Tuesday morning, Feb. 13. Chip McIntyre reports from the Sheriff’s Office. Candace Miller reports from Planning and Zoning.
Craig City Council meets Tuesday afternoon.
The Routt County Building Department is offering two trainings on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The first is from 10 a.m. to noon, covering heat pumps, electrification, and geothermal systems. The second training is from noon to 3 p.m. covering CityView training, tips and trick. The sessions include lunch and snacks. Email Todd Carr in the Routt County Building Department to register. The 111th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival wrapped up over the weekend with skiing, and fireworks and horses and jumping and many street events down Lincoln Ave. Charlotte is 11 years old had a strategy for the ski joring.
“Ask for full throttle and get the craziest horse.”
The 25-foot long ski with six bindings was new this year and teams battled it out down Lincoln Ave. The CMC Ski Team had the fastest time.
And for the Snow Sculptures, the Ice Cold team won with their Frosty Fiesta colorful creation as the best student entry. They get a Snowbowl Prize Package.
In the Community category, the Routt County Team created their fireplace which took first and they win a gift card to Off the Beaten Path.
Twenty-two beautiful quilts have been presented to Routt County veterans. The women who created the quilts call themselves the “Delectable Mountain Quilters.” Nancy Wilson with the group says they plan to make more.
“It’s just a matter of us appreciating our veterans from our hearts.”

Kathie Dunn-Jacobsen of North Routt County will receive with the Meritorious Service Award from the American Saddlebred Horse & Breeders Association. She’ll be honored at a ceremony Feb. 16 in Kentucky.
The Sleeping Giant School Girls 8th Grade basketball team won 1st place in the Western Slope division beating Rangely.
The Hayden Middle School Girls also won their district, defeating SoRoCo and Walden.
