Expect what could be some heavy snow in the next couple of days. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Elkhead, Flat Tops, and Park Mountains, this morning, through 11 p.m. Tuesday night. Some forecasts are saying wind gusts could reach 60 miles per hour in some areas, which will affect travel over high mountain passes and reduce visibility. The wind chill could be 25 below zero.

With the weather comes an Avalanche Watch. Colorado Avalanche Information Center says to expect very dangerous avalanche conditions Monday night through Wednesday morning.  Video of CAIC’s High Resolution Weather Model

The two wolves that have reached Moffat County are wandering “dangerously close to Wyoming.” Eric Odell with Colorado Parks and Wildlife told The Coloradoan newspaper that CPW won’t take any action if the wolves move into Wyoming, where killing wolves is legal. Odell also said there is no plan to recapture the two wolves. They were two of ten released Dec. 18-22 in Grand and Summit counties, which have been tracked in Routt and now Moffat counties. The article goes on to say that Wyoming has refused to enter into an agreement with Colorado officials to capture those released wolves if they go into Wyoming. Odell also told The Colorodoan that there have been no reported livestock depredations from the wolves that were reintroduced.
