The Routt County Humane Society is seeing a large number of dogs being surrendered to the shelter by their owners. It follows a nationwide trend. Here’s Director Elaine Hicks.
“The main reason for those surrender seems to be housing issues and not being able to take care of their pet financially.”
There is also a decrease in adoption rates which has resulted in a full kennel at the Routt County Humane Society and a wait list of seven animals that they can’t accommodate right now. To encourage adoptions, Routt County Humane Society is offering 50 percent off adoption fees for all adult dogs for the rest of March. Visit the shelter at 760 Critter Court or online at www.RouttHumane.org
The Bear Creek Animal Shelter in Craig has eight dogs right now, four of which were also surrendered. You can see Kodak, Krypto, Melanie and Silver on Petfinder.com Search Moffat County.

More moose are making their appearance as we head into spring. A moose has been spotted in Old Town Steamboat Springs. In Grand County, Colorado Parks and Wildlife has received six reports of incidents involving defensive moose, since the end of January. A moose with calves charged a man with his dogs, that were on a leash on the Fraser River Trail. Another dog was killed after being stomped on by a moose in Tabernash.
If you see a moose, leave the area right away, and that includes on the ski slopes. Keep your dog on a leash. Watch for aggressive behavior from the moose and get away as fast as you can, or put something between you and the moose, like a boulder, car or tree. And never feed wildlife as their digestive systems can’t handle human food.

“We have a lot of returning guys, on the offensive side of the ball. We have a bunch of question marks at special teams and on defense. I think we’ll be strong on goal. I think we’ll be able to score a lot of goals on offense.”
