The Cook Ford dealership in Craig is closing April 30. The owners of the land that the building sits on have put it up for sale.
The 12 employees at Cook Ford were notified Friday.
Scott Cook is the president of Cook Chevrolet, Subaru, and Ford. He says most of those employees will be able to work at Cook Chevrolet, which is almost across the street, on Victory Way.
“We’ve got a lot of great employees. We’ve got a lot of employees who have been with us 15+ years, which is unusual in the car business. We have a lot of good people and we do our best to keep them. A lot of good customers also.”
Cook says it is like a merger, where all of the employees’ benefits and pay will stay the same. Techs that are trained on Ford vehicles will be available at Cook Chevrolet.
Ford warranty work can no longer be done at the Cook dealership unless it is for an extended warranty or recall. Cook says the other Ford dealerships where vehicles can also be serviced in the region are in Steamboat Springs, Vernal, Silverthorne, and Rifle.
He also said Ford has been trying to reduce the number of dealerships in the United States. There are 162 fewer Ford dealerships in the U.S. in 2023, from the year before.
