The Town Board of Oak Creek will be discussing the next steps to hire a new Police Chief at their Town Board meeting this Thursday, March 28.
The Police Chief of Oak Creek, Ralph Maher, announced he is retiring last Friday, and that was his last day. Maher served nine years in Oak Creek and South Routt.
Maher came under question after an incident at the Colorado Bar in Oak Creek in January about his enforcement actions during a show called the “Magic Hunks.” Lauren Verbosky owns the Colorado Bar. She expressed her frustration with Chief Maher, saying the Magic Hunk dancers weren’t doing anything excessive.
“Nothing was illegal. There was no nudity, no profanities. They knew their laws. They do this for a living. They go around the country. They didn’t do anything they wouldn’t have done in Steamboat at the event.”
Chief Maher told Steamboat Radio News that he is leaving the position, hoping to have made the best impact he could on the community and its members. He has no definite plans right now but after 29 years in public safety, he hopes to continue to serve in some capacity.
