Concrete rehabilitation work begins on Hwy 40 in downtown Steamboat Springs next Wednesday, April 3. This is for sidewalk and ADA accessibility improvements from 3rd to 13th Streets. There will be some light delays.
Then CDOT says to expect delays of seven to 10 minutes beginning April 15. The work will take three months.

US 40 concrete rehabilitation project begins in Steamboat Springs on April 3
Motorists should plan for 7-10 minute delays, sometimes longer
Routt County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will soon begin concrete rehabilitation improvement work on US Highway 40 near Steamboat Springs. Work is anticipated to begin April 3. Motorists should plan for light once work begins, during April 3-12. Work will focus on ADA ramp improvements. Delays of 7-10 minutes will begin the week of April 15. Those delays are anticipated when there is a high volume of traffic moving through the project area, such as the morning and evening commute. Crews will conduct the rehabilitation improvement project for three months. Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of June. Work will take place from Mile Point 130.5 to MP 133.5. KSK, LLC is the contractor for this project.
The project will improve and prolong the life and durability of US 40 in Steamboat Springs. ADA sidewalk accessibility will be improved, along with refreshed pedestrian crosswalks. Work will primarily include concrete pavement panel replacement, ADA pedestrian ramps, and sidewalk improvements. Work will be done in both the eastbound and westbound directions on US 40, from 3rd Street to 13th Street. A smooth road or highway has many important benefits, including safety and improved quality for the driving experience. A smoother surface also offers safer driving for motorists.

Once construction begins, customers can sign up for stakeholder updates using the following steps:

- Select “US 40 Steamboat Main Street Rehabilitation.” Note: Construction updates usually begin once a project has started construction.
- Click on the green “Submit” button at the bottom of the page
Traffic Impacts
- Intermittent daytime (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and nighttime work hours (range from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.), Monday through Friday
- Traffic impacts will be light at the start of the project, during April 3 – 12
- Starting the week of April 15, motorists should plan for 7-10 minute delays. Delays may take place during the morning and evening commuter hours, and other peak travel times
- Single-lane traffic, eastbound and westbound, will remain open at all times
The project is expected to last until the end of June 2024.

- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don’t change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
