Another calf has been killed by a wolf or wolves in Jackson County. Colorado Parks and Wildlife conducted a field investigation after getting a call Sunday morning, April 7. The hindquarter had been partially consumed and wolf tracks were found in the area.
CPW is now confirming that they are now aware of four wolves in the area. They include wolves from the Oregon pack that were released in December 2023 and a wolf or wolves who have known territory in North Park.
No specific location or specific animal information will be released from CPW.
The livestock producer will be eligible for fair market value of the livestock if a claim is submitted.

Local numbers for jobs and wages have been released for the third quarter. The 2024 Regional Economic Update was compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. The report was broken down by the Northwest Colorado Council of Governments. Total jobs in Routt County are 13,360. The average annual wage is $58,396 which is less than the state average of $74,360 and the U.S. average which is $59,384. In Routt County, the highest paying sector is finance and insurance, paying an annual average salary of $128,076.

Craig City Council meets Tuesday night. There is first Council Training at 4 p.m. with Sam Light from the Colorado Intergovernmental Risk Sharing Agency. The regular meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. One agenda item is approval of a proclamation declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Moffat County. Another agenda item says a discussion on “Housing Project.”
Steamboat Springs City Council has a work session Tuesday night with Yampa Valley Housing Authority. The Brown Ranch Follow-up Discussion, as it is titled, starts at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

The 2024 Colorado All-State Band gathered last weekend with high school musicians from across the state participating at UNC in Greeley. Daisy Hoff from SoRoCo High School participated in the Concert Band, playing her French Horn. Steamboat Springs High School had Alexander Dismuke playing clarinet in the Small School Band. Sophie Flam played Flute in the Symphonic Band, earning 2nd chair.
