“Dr. Neal is obviously very committed to our district. He had done his homework. He was trying to integrate into the community as soon as he came in. His experience is extensive. He is somebody who is willing to come into Moffat County, understanding the challenges that we’re facing as a community and I think he’s going to do a great job.”

Negotiations will begin with Dr. Neal, who will start the job July 1. Brad Meeks will serve as interim superintendent until then.

Neal comes to Moffat County most recently from Woodland Park in Teller County where he served as superintendent for ten years.

For immediate release: Moffat County School District Board of votes to offer superintendent position to Mathew Neal

CRAIG, CO — The Moffat County School District Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday evening to offer the district superintendent position to Mathew Neal.

Pending negotiations leading to the signing of a contract, Dr. Neal will take the position in Craig July 1.

Dr. Neal is a highly qualified, deeply experienced superintendent and school leader. He served for 10 years as a superintendent, the last couple at Woodland Park, in Teller County. He’s served in the position as far away as Kuwait, and as nearby as Sweetwater County School District, just over Moffat County’s northern border in Wyoming, north of Dinosaur. He’s also worked in high administrative positions in Denver Public Schools and Brighton and Durango School Districts.

Dr. Neal holds a doctorate in organizational change and leadership from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Colorado State University and did his undergraduate work at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. He has also received multiple certificates in educational leadership from Harvard University.

Dr. Neal will succeed interim superintendent Dr. Brad Meeks, who will continue to serve in the interim position until the end of June. Meeks took the position in January following the departure of Jill Hafey from the position.

The board of education expressed enormous optimism and confidence in Dr. Neal’s selection to lead Moffat County School District into its next era. Moffat County School District is in the midst of a great deal of transition, and the board declared their expectations to be very high that Dr. Neal is the right person to steer the district into and through a new era of success and stability.
