A wolf (or wolves) has killed four more head of livestock in Grand County. They were four yearling calves which means they were each under a year old. It is confirmed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Here’s Grand County Commissioner Merrit Linke.
“This is five animals killed in 16 days in three separate depredating events and it literally started 106 days after the release. and Rachel Gabel will confirm this too (from Fence Post magazine). How many of these animals came from known depredating packs which was clearly against the recommendations from the technical working group and the stakeholder group plan that was submitted and adopted by the Wildlife Commission.”
Linke says the Middle Park Stockgrowers Association has sent a letter to Governor Polis and CPW leadership for them to take action immediately, and declare the wolves that are killing livestock as chronic depredators, which means lethal management of those wolves.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is sending out a springtime reminder to not feed the wildlife. Human food is not always healthy for wild animals. Don’t approach or touch wild animals. Enjoy them from a distance. Keep your dog on a leash on the trails. If you see a wild animal that appears sick or injured, leave it alone. That includes newborn fawns who are sometimes left alone for a few hours after being born.
Call your local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office and talk to a wildlife officer if you have any questions.
