A Steamboat Springs juvenile has been arrested on two felony charges. The investigation started from an anonymous report about a student idolizing school shooters.
Steamboat Springs Police collaborated with the Steamboat Springs School District, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the 14th Judicial District and local mental health resources to determine that there was a credible threat. The juvenile was taken into custody.
No other details as to the identity are being released, due to the person’s age. This person is no longer a threat to the community.

SSPD & SSSD Emphasize Individual No Longer Threat To Community
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 1, 2024-This morning, the Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) served an arrest warrant on a juvenile Steamboat Springs resident. The investigation into the juvenile started from an anonymous report about a student idolizing school shooters.
SSPD partnered with the Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD), the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and local mental health resources. The immediate investigation led officials to believe there was a credible threat.
Officials acted quickly to ensure the safety of local schools and the community. The juvenile was taken into custody on two felony offenses. No further information will be released due to the defendant’s age and the nature of the investigation.
SSPD and SSSD want to emphasize there is no longer a threat to community schools from this individual. This successful resolution was a direct result of the community partnerships.
SSPD would like to thank the community’s vigilance for ensuring this situation was brought to the attention of officials. School Resource Officers (SRO) work in partnership with the school district to address school-based concerns on an ongoing basis and played a key role in this investigation.
