Colorado Parks and Wildlife is reporting that a person was swiped from behind by a black bear Tuesday morning. The person was knocked to the ground. It was on a path connecting Walton Creek Road and Mt. Werner Circle, near Steamboat Resort. Local CPW officers have set up bear traps and warning signs in the area, adding, “If we trap the bear involved in the attack per policy it will be euthanized.”

Lots of school news today…
Educators in the South Routt School District are getting a raise. The South Routt Board of Education has approved an additional 5.5% salary increase for employees during their board meeting this week. The additional increase means all South Routt staff will receive an 11% increase for the 2024-25 school year.
Employees in the Steamboat Springs School District are also getting a raise for the upcoming school year, after approval of a new compensation package from the Board of Education on Monday.

Today is the last day of school for students in the South Routt School District. SoRoCo seniors will have their graduation parade at the elementary school at 1 p.m. SoRoCo High School graduation is at 11 a.m. Saturday.
It is also the last day of school for Moffat County kids. Seniors have a graduation practice at 9 a.m. Friday morning with graduation at 10 a.m. Saturday at the football field at Moffat County High School. If the weather is bad, it will be moved into the auditorium. Moffat County Graduation

Yampa Valley High School Graduation is at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, May 24, at Yampa River Botanic Park.

In preparation for Memorial Day, flags are being put on graves of veterans at the Steamboat Springs Cemetery at 5 p.m. today by the local Boy Scouts and Civil Air Patrol. You’re welcome to join and help.

Grand Old West Days are at the Moffat County Fairgrounds in Craig, starting this afternoon through Monday. The Parade through downtown Craig is at 1 p.m. today, Friday, May 24. Watch the action from the Colorado High School and Middle School Rodeo all weekend, with the finals Monday morning. Concerts are at the fairgrounds Friday and Saturday night.
