The bear that took a swipe at a person on Tuesday in Steamboat Springs has been trapped and humanely euthanized by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, per their policy. In a press release on their website, it says the sow and two of the three yearling cubs were trapped near the location of the attack. They were positively identified by wildlife officers. They say the yearling cubs are no longer dependent on their mother for food. Wildlife officers evaluated the young bears and the two in the trap have been relocated to south Routt County as they can survive on their own. Wildlife officers will not attempt to trap the third bear.

The Middle Park Stockgrowers Association has again reached out to Colorado Parks and Wildlife Director Jeff Davis, asking that CPW remove the two wolves that continue to kill livestock in Grand County.
The six-page letter starts off, “When is CPW going to do its job, follow the wolf plan, and move the two chronically depredating wolves in Grand County, Colorado?”
Seven yearlings and calves have been killed by wolves in Grand County since April 2. The Stockgrowers wrote, “THIS MUST STOP.”
It wraps up saying they have concerns that the wolves will eventually kill a human, especially as the producers in the area will be outside on their ranches with their children and grandchildren.
“If a human is killed, will you say these wolves need to be removed from the landscape?”

Probable cause has been found in the Vehicular Homicide/DUI case against Steven O’Brien. It’s for the death of Emily Tintrup Dealy who was pregnant, last July. The crash was just west of Steamboat Springs on Hwy 40. At the preliminary hearing Wednesday, law enforcement testified that Steven O’Brien allegedly drove his red Ford F-150 into the westbound lane, hitting and killing Dealy, who was a passenger. Her husband was driving their Dodge Ram. A Colorado State Trooper testified that another possible DUI call had come in on O’Brien three hours earlier and that test results allegedly showed Oxycodone and possibly other substances in his system. He’ll appear for an arraignment in District Court before Judge O’Hara on June 10. Dealy was a preschool teacher at Steamboat Montessori.
