The Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition has three crane contests going on right now.
The Yampa Valley Crane Festival Poster Contest is open for youth ages ten to 15 years old, through July 12. The winning poster will be displayed throughout the Yampa Valley during the Colorado Crane festival, Aug. 29-Sept. 1. The winner gets $100 cash.
Email your name, phone number, email, mailing address, age, and a digital copy of your entry as an attachment to poster@coloradocranes.org.
A Photo Contest is also happening through Aug. 8. There are five categories with prizes awarded in each. Those winning photos will be displayed at the Yampa Valley Crane Festival, Aug. 29-Sept. 1.
- Yampa Valley Greater Sandhill Cranes (Routt & Moffat Counties) – Amateur Division
- Yampa Valley Greater Sandhill Cranes (Routt & Moffat Counties)– Professional Division
- Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes- Locations outside the Yampa Valley (open to both Amateur and Professional photographers)
- Altered Reality Images of Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes – locations both within and outside the Yampa Valley.
- Video of Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes (NEW!)
All photos submitted in any category must be taken between September 1, 2023 and August 8, 2024.

To submit photos, please email photocontest@coloradocranes.org with the following information: photographer’s name, phone number, location of photo, date it was taken, and a title for the image for each photo, and attach each photo in jpeg format. Submissions must be received no later than August 8, 2024. Two submissions per person are allowed in each of the applicable categories. Entrants are eligible to win one prize per category.
The Coloring Contest is for kids ages three to 18, and it’s running through Aug. 9. Here is the page, and a link is below, but you can also pick one up at Bud Werner Children’s Library, Hayden Library, Craig Library, and Oak Creek Library. Kids can color, paint and decorate the drawing and return it to any of these libraries by August 9, 2024. Completed pictures can also be mailed to:
