Then from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, there is a book sale/fundraiser in the library at Steamboat Springs High School. New art has been installed on the lawn next to Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs. Local sculptor Sandy Graves created the art from a painting by Susan Schiesser called, “She Walks on Water.” It is a bear with wings and a crown.
“The bear symbolizes the spirit of the Yampa Valley, and truly the whole valley. Not the people who live here as much as the grass and the birds and the animals and the spirit that draws us all here. It’s about being protected in that space, it’s about the protection of the environment that we love and the respect that we should give it.”
It will take a couple of more weeks to finish installing the sculpture, and a lighting system that is motion activated. It’s between the library and the Yampa River, which was once called the Bear River.

A group is gathering at the Tugboat Grill & Pub building in Ski Time Square from 3-4 p.m. Friday afternoon, June 7. They plan to celebrate the memories of the Tugboat Bar as the building is set to be demolished sometime in June. Mary Kay Ghiglia is organizing the gathering.
“There are a lot of people who were here in the 70s and early 80s that that was an institution. My husband is a musician and he played there back in the day. And now this is the last bit of the Steamboat old institutions that are going away. And I just thought we should celebrate the moment, that’s all.”
Organizers say it is a “somber human-chain event to memorialize the old days at the ‘Boat. Wear black, but accessorize.” We have reached out to the developer multiple times to get an exact date of demolition.
