In an update from Union Pacific on removal of the collapsed building between the Core Trail and 13th Street… A spokesman said Wednesday, “Union Pacific continues to share the community’s desire to safely demolish the building as soon as possible, but the landfill is not yet accepting debris. We will get to work as soon as conditions change.”
We have been told from the county that there may be asbestos and they’re checking to find out where it can safely be taken. That building collapsed in March of 2023. Union Pacific received a Notice of Violation in July last year. We will continue to follow up.
As for the railroad ties that were replaced, that now line the tracks from Milner to Phippsburg, Union Pacific spokesperson Mike Jaixen says collection work is still on schedule for this month.
In roadwork on Lincoln Avenue, the eastbound left lane between 7th and 8th will be closed all day today. Then tonight, work will be on the westbound left lane around 5th street, with that lane closed all day Friday. All of the lane closures will be picked up by Saturday morning.
The Jackson County producer who lost a calf to wolves Sunday said he knew it was coming to his ranch, and all the ranchers are losing sleep over it.
“It’s more personal than what people think, and I think that is missed on a lot of people, just how much emotionally it affects the people that are doing this.”
Wolves have killed 23 animals in Jackson County since December of 2021. That’s cattle, sheep, and three dogs, with seven calves in Grand County.

The Routt County Council on Aging is hosting a Health & Wellness Expo for those 60 and over. It’s from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13. There are classes, services and resources, and free lunch. There will be cardiovascular screenings as well as dental and hearing screening, vision services, tax aide, fraud prevention from Steamboat Police, Hair Cuts, Manicure/Pedicures, veterans resources, and interpretation and translation.
Mustang cars are rolling into Steamboat Springs for the Colorado Mustang Stampede. It starts today, June 13-June 15. You’ll see Ford Mustang classics from the 1965 model to cutting-edge 2025 editions. The big show is Saturday on Yampa Street, between 9th and 12th Streets. Cars will start parking at 7 a.m. The show runs until 3 p.m.
A Town Hall with Senator Dylan Roberts of Senate District 8 and Representative Meghan Lukens of House District 26 is at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at Bud Werner Library in Steamboat Springs. They’ll discuss the 2024 Post-Legislative Session.
