Casey’s Pond residents in the Skilled Nursing area of the facility are getting three months notice to leave. That’s 47 people. The residents in Skilled Nursing are the ones who have difficulty with their activities in daily living, like eating, getting dressed, and mobility.
Bellann R. Raile with Cordes & Company is the managing director of the company that is handling the receivership.
“I understand how difficult this is. Our social services director will have a team to help residents with all aspects of transition to their new community. She has already been working on tools to help families with this process.”
A coalition of community groups sent a letter to the group handling the receivership last week, saying they were working to put together a qualified bid for Casey’s Pond. But Raile says the offer price is too low, and if they weren’t able to come up with the money, the residents would have to move in the winter and during the holidays.
The 66 Casey’s Pond residents in the assisted living and independent living areas are not impacted.

A mountain lion was seen early Saturday morning, walking down Fish Creek Falls Road, just up from Amethyst. The Steamboat Springs office for Colorado Parks and Wildlife says they have had two sightings reported to them. One was Friday when the caller said two lions were in his neighbor’s yard and headed toward Spring Creek Trail. The second caller said he saw a mountain lion behind the Steamboat Springs Post Office Sunday night.

More wolf attacks… this time in Grand County. Two sheep have been killed by wolves and ranchers there say 11 more are missing. It happened over the weekend. Merrit Linke is a Grand County Commissioner and on the board of the Middle Park Stockgrowers Association.
“We do not feel that CPW is following the wolf plan. They need to step up their game and take care of business.”
That means lethal management by wildlife officials. Another lamb was killed in Grand County earlier this month. Wolves have also killed seven head of cattle in Grand County since April. Three calves have also been killed by wolves in South Routt County this month and last.

The South Routt Education Endowment Fund has received a $50,000 anonymous donation. It came via Yampa Valley Community Foundation, right after their fundraiser at Lupita’s in Oak Creek last week. That event raised over $12,000.
The South Routt Education Endowment Fund supports South Routt schools, and the communities of Stagecoach, Oak Creek, Phippsburg, Yampa, Toponas, and the surrounding areas.
The fund now has a balance of $420,000. The fundraising team hopes to establish a $1,000,000 endowment. The fund is managed by Yampa Valley Community Foundation.
