Michelle Gottschall is the newest member of Craig City Council
Gottschall is with Northwest Colorado Health. She fills the vacant seat left by Nathan Butler. She was sworn in Tuesday by Municipal Judge Jay Cranmer.

Governor Polis has appointed Billy-George Hertzke from Denver to the 14th Judicial District Court, which serves Moffat, Routt, and Grand counties. He will replace the Honorable Michael A. O’Hara III in mid January.
Mr. Hertzke is a Partner at SGR, LLC, a position he has held since 2011. His practice consists primarily of civil litigation. Previously, Mr. Hertzke was an associate at SGR, LLC (2003-2011). Mr. Hertzke earned his B.A. from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1996 and his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2003.
The Colorado Energy Office has awarded close to $1.9 million to eight local governments for Climate Action. One of those is the Climate Action Plan Collaborative with Routt County, Steamboat Springs, Hayden, Oak Creek, and Yampa. The award is $264,100 to launch a regional electrification and decarbonization planning and implementation initiative that will help with electrification in Northwest Colorado. It will also support workforce development and job training in the Just Transition communities.
Colorado Creates has provided 125 grants to different arts organizations across the state. Three of those are:
- Friends of Perry-Mansfield $10,000
- Steamboat Dance Theatre $6,500
- Steamboat Art Museum $8,500
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission has approved more than $6 million in motorized trail grants. This is for off-highway vehicles, or OHVs. Fifty-nine trail projects are being funded with seven in Routt, Moffat, and Rio Blanco counties. They include:
- The Megawatt Moto Track in Craig – $56,742
- The Elkhorn Bridge in the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears District — $150K
- An HPBE Motorized Trail Crew in the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears District — $113,500
- The White River OHV Trail Crew on BLM Land in the White River Forest — $138,640
- The Little Snake OHV Crew — $96,580
- The Grizzly Helena Trail Review with Northern Colorado Trail Riders — $90,350
2025 OHV Trail Grand Funding Recommendations
Kate Nowak said thank you last night, to a group gathered to wish her well upon her retirement as executive director after 11 years at United Way of the Yampa Valley.
“I’m just really thrilled that everybody came out. I want to thank everybody in the community for supporting United Way and me throughout the years.”
Tonight, there is a gathering from 4-6 p.m. for United Way of the Yampa Valley at the Yampa Building in Craig. All are invited.
Casey’s Pond is rallying the community to continue donating to Casey’s Pond They’re asking anyone who can help to participate at any level, especially in the $25 or more.

Close to 40 seniors from Steamboat Springs and Hayden journeyed up the gondola Wednesday, at Steamboat Resort to learn how works. The tour was organized by the Routt County Council on Aging.
“This is special for me because I no longer ski and I get to ride the gondola and walk around the upper mountain with a bunch of great folks.”
