The South Routt School District has again been named a District of Distinction, for the second year in a row.
Here is Superintendent Kirk Henwood.
“And it just means that a lot of the hard work and systems we’re putting into place to make the educational experience for our students better is working and we’re just really excited to continue to work hard to become the best small school district in the state of Colorado.”
Henwood says this year’s award winners represent the top 9% of districts in Colorado with only 17 districts being honored.
SoRoCo Middle School also has the highest growth and achievement in the state in English Language Arts and was the top three in the state for math growth and achievement.
SoRoCo High School science scores were also above the state average.
Eighth grade scores were second highest for all middle schools in the state.
Dr. Henwood attributes the district’s success to its high-quality teachers who are committed to teaching the whole student, not just state-tested areas. “The learning that takes place in all of our classes contributes to our students’ success. Our PK- 5 classes, Agriculture, Band, Industrial Arts and Art classes in addition to tested areas all contribute to developing well-rounded students. We are proud of our students, teachers, and staff for once again earning this distinction.”
SoRoCo is in the South Routt School District. Students attend SoRoCo schools from Oak Creek, Stagecoach, Phippsburg, Yampa, rural areas of South Routt County, and northern Rio Blanco and Eagle Counties in Northwest Colorado.
