Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team Wins Division 2 and Spirit Award at Haymaker Classic

Allie Reznicek, Sydney Soard, and Whitney Warnke all finish in the top three in their categories.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team continued to show impressive young talent at the third race of the 2024 Colorado High School Cycling League series Saturday in Eagle, Colorado, at the Haymaker Classic. The team secured the Division 2 title and earned the highly sought-after Spirit Award, with this week’s race theme celebrating neon.

A total of 458 riders race either two or three (varsity riders) laps of the six-mile course, 33 racers from Steamboat. The girls’ team once again delivered standout performances. Freshman Sydney Soard, the current points leader, maintained her top standing with a commanding first-place finish. Allie Reznicek placed 2nd in the sophomore race, and Whitney Warnke took 3rd in the JV race. Other top ten finishers were Eva Minotto, who placed 8th in the varsity girls’ race after returning from injury, and Jesse Weaver, who secured 9th in the junior varsity girls’ race. For the boys, Thomas Agosta was 7th in the junior varsity race, and Schuyler Biglow placed 7th in the sophomore boys’ category. Freshman boys also made their mark, with Odin Gruben, Quinn Dressen, and Robbie Wodnik finishing 4th, 5th, and 6th in their race. Lucia Magnotta rounded out the results with an 8th-place finish in the freshman girls’ race.

The day began with excellent weather, but as the varsity boys’ race started, rain and lightning forced the event to be cut short, preventing some of the boys’ varsity riders from completing their third lap. The girl’s varsity race started after a delay and was shortened to one lap. Race number four for the Yampa Division and the final chance to qualify for the State Championships is Sunday, October 6, in Fruita, Colorado.
