UPDATE from Steamboat Springs Police: The suspect is an 18-year-old adult, and not a juvenile.
A suspect is in custody after a lockdown at Steamboat Springs High School this afternoon. No one was injured.
Steamboat Springs Police Chief Mark Beckett told Steamboat Radio News what happened today (this was recorded at 2:57 p.m.).
“So today, Steamboat Springs Police and Steamboat Springs School District received two Safe2Tell tips about a student possibly armed with a gun. We responded after the initial messaging and did not locate a gun. However, after we left the high school, we received a second Safe2Tell tip with a picture of the student posting with a gun. We responded back to the school and placed it back in lockdown. Had a heavy police presence in the area. Conducted an area search and were eventually able to locate the individual in a different location. At this point, all students are going to be released as normal and all schools are being taken out of lockdown. No one was injured at all.”
