Steamboat Springs Police Chief Mark Beckett says Steamboat Springs Police is not arresting anyone right now regarding the lockdown incident at Steamboat Springs High School Friday afternoon.

“We never had a specific threat from this individual. At this time, we’re still undergoing the investigation. We’re going through some forensic information, but as of right now, nobody has been charged so there is going to be no information put out on any sort of a suspect because frankly there isn’t one.”

He said Steamboat Springs Police shut down the school Friday afternoon out of an abundance of caution after three anonymous Safe2Tell reports. A gun was never located at the school. The school district also says, “We want to stress that there was never an imminent threat to Steamboat Springs High School.”

The investigation continues. Chief Beckett asks that you reach out to Steamboat Springs Police if you have any information. Please contact the Steamboat Springs Police Department at 970-879-1144. Ask for Detective Lisa Eifling who is the School Resource Officer, or Sergeant Sam Silva.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife had a commission meeting last week in Denver. Agenda items included wolf updates, and they heard from ranchers and wolf advocates. Colorado Cattlemen and Middle Park Stockgrowers submitted a petition to the commission that had 26 ag producers statewide represented, including in Moffat and Routt counties. The petition asks the commission to not reintroduce more wolves this year until certain criteria is met. Here’s Tim Ritschard with Middle Park Stockgrowers.

“I just really hope the CPW commission takes up our petition so we can have a pause to figure out some of our stuff that’s going on before we have more wolves on the ground and we have the same issue again.”

Ritschard spoke to commissioners along with Doug Bruchez and Conway Farrell, who has lost at least 20 head of livestock in Grand County.

There is much more about this story and everything discussed, which also included black bears and cage-free chickens. The link is below.

A permit application review for the SBT GRVL ride is at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 8th, in the Commissioners hearing room in the historic Routt County Courthouse. Commissioners have suggested capping the ride at 1,800 riders, down from 3,000, and removing the competitive racing component of the event. SBT GRVL organizers say the race brings $5 million each summer to the local economy. AGENDA
