28 Steamboat Springs Mountain Bikers are headed to the State Championships

The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike team qualified 28 athletes to compete the upcoming Colorado High School Cycling League State Championships at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, October 19 – 20. 

At the recent North Fruita Desert Classic, the team finished second, but was able to win the overall Division 2 title, edging out Summit.

A couple of top finishers were Allie Reznicek for the sophomore girls and she is now the new points leader.

Sydney Soard also finished first for freshman girls.

 

Whitney Warnke was second for JV girls.

 

And as always, both Steamboat teams showed team spirit.

The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team is a composite team of student-athletes from Steamboat Springs High School and Steamboat Mountain School. The team is managed by Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.

Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike Team Qualifies 28 Athletes for State Championships

The Steamboat composite team continued to dominate, winning the Yampa Division 2 title

 

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike team competed in the fourth race of The Colorado High School Cycling League at the North Fruita Desert Classic on Sunday, October 6, in Fruita, Colorado.

Steamboat riders continued to showcase their skills across all categories and finished second place in Division 2 in the final race of the Yampa Division before the State Championships. On Wednesday, October 9, The Colorado High School Cycling League announced the list of athletes who will represent their regions at the Colorado High School Cycling League State Championships at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, October 19 – 20, 2024, and twenty-eight Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike Team athletes secured their spots to compete.

State Championship qualifiers include Thomas Agosta and Luke Bedell for the varsity boys, Eva Minotto for the varsity girls, Ian McClarney for the junior varsity Boys, Whitney Warnke, Jesse Weaver, and Anna Boness for the junior varsity girls, Schuyler Biglow, Oscar Libin, Jackson Rosencrantz, Rowan Hanaughan, and Logan Drury for sophomore boys, Allie Reznicek, Lindsay Berke, and Zoe Chase for the sophomore girls, Robbie Wodnik, Quinn Dressen, Odin Gruben, Caleb Walker, Henry Davis, Fisher Beauregard, Soren Shepherd, and Silas Setter for the freshman Boys, and Sydney Soard, Lucia Magnotta, Ellis Dressendorfer, Julia Boness, and Grayson Wells for the freshman Girls. The second-place team finish on October 6 helped Steamboat secure a first-place overall Division 2 title in the Yampa Region, edging out Summit by a narrow margin.

 

The Fruita race course was a dusty, smoky 5.9-mile loop with 335 feet of climbing per lap. A total of 374 riders competed, with 36 riders from Steamboat. Varsity riders raced three laps, and all other categories raced two laps. The competitive field highlighted the endurance and talent of these young cyclists, with impressive performances across the board. Rider Sydney Soard continued to dominate the freshman girls with her fourth win of the series. Allie Reznicek also won for the sophomore girls. Whitney Warnke posted another strong finish with 2nd place in the junior varsity girls category. Other impressive top-ten finishes include Eva Minotto, 6th place varsity girls; Luke Bedell, 10th place varsity boys; Schuyler Biglow, 9th and Oscar Libin for the sophomore boys; Lindsay Berke, 6th and Zoe Chase, 10th for the sophomore girls; Lucia Magnotta, 4th for the freshman girls and Quinn Dressen, 4th, Odin Gruben, 8th, and Robbie Wodnik, 9th for the freshman boys.

The depth of the Steamboat Team’s squad was highlighted in the athlete’s state qualification rankings. Allie Reznicek (sophomore) and Sydney Soard (freshman) both ranked number one in the Yampa Division in their categories. Junior varsity rider Whitney Warnke ranked second, and for the freshman boys, Robbie Wodnik earned a third-place ranking, and Quinn Dressen claimed fourth.
