One Steamboat Springs High School athlete will be competing in the Colorado State Championships next Saturday, Nov. 2, at Penrose Stadium in Colorado Springs. Asher Rowan qualified at the Colorado Regional Championships last Friday at the North Area Athletic Complex, north of Golden.
The Steamboat Springs High School Cross Country Team did not advance as a team to the State Championships but they had strong performances, according to Coach Lisa Renee Tumminello. She writes:
- On the ladies side, the athletes that lined up and finished in this order were Antigone Loomis, Novella Light, Ayla Oslowski, Emerald Weber, Evie Fisher, Davis Brosterhous, Hailey Znamenacek, Gigi Lobek, and Norah Graham. Our captain, Grace Olexa, graciously had to sit the race out, after illness.
- On the gentlemen’s side, our athletes that raced together and finished in this order were Asher Rowan, Gavin Hendricks (freshman), Xavier Knott, William Reilley, Benji Langness, Jacob Gonzales(freshman), Drew Picking, Miles Damore and Quentin Nance with Wrigs Neeley there as an alternate and ready to step in, if needed.
Rowan was one of the top 15 athletes to cross the finish line, in a sprint finish, which helped him qualify for state.
Xavier Knott will also race at the State Championships next weekend, to defend his state championship title in the Unified Division.
Tumminello adds, “Both young men will represent our school and community with excellence and gratitude.”
