The Eco Club at Steamboat Springs High School held an awareness rally in front of the Routt County Courthouse Friday.

Junior Shea Speer says it was to raise awareness about the climate crisis.

“It’s important because climate change is going to impact our future profoundly. So it matters now that we make change in the moment. And so we’re out here today to continue the discussion on climate action so that we can make sure that what we do keeps happening and we don’t lose steam.”

Students hand-painted signs and stood along Lincoln Ave. Many honked and waved as they drove by.

Steamboat Springs Police Deputy Lisa Eifling was at the rally.

Election officials came out to make sure the signs that the kids made didn’t violate any campaign rules. One sign was questionable because of one word, so it was removed just in case.
