
The Steamboat Springs Rotary Club has awarded $20,000 in grants to local 501(c)3 organizations, schools or government agencies here in Routt County through its Endowment Fund.
Tara Weaver, grant committee chair, commented “our Rotary Club is blessed to be able to support so many deserving non-profits serving the Yampa River Valley. Our club members have always maintained a primary focus on supporting organizations who support others. In addition to these grants, our club recently provided $141,000 to Northwest Colorado Health to support home care and hospice services across Routt County.”
Recipient organizations and activities being funded include:
October 2024 Rotary Community Needs Grants: $20,000
Steamboat Dance Theater $1,000. To help fund dance classes through their Dance Vitality program to aging seniors. They will be providing four classes per month plus a workshop serving 10-15 seniors per week. There are currently no regular dance classes for the aging population in Routt County.
Junior Achievement – Rocky Mountain $1,000. Funding to help implement Junior Achievement programs in Routt County middle schools that focus on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career readiness.
High Altitude Basketball $2,000. To purchase 20 competition jerseys for girls basketball programming. Expected life of jerseys to serve girls basketball players is 10 seasons. Over 200 girls will be impacted by this grant.
The Haven Assisted Living $1,800. Support resident engagement activities that are crucial to overall health and well-being. Activities will occur on a weekly basis and their 20 residents will all benefit. Funds will purchase digital piano, cooking club supplies, supplies for Holiday projects and sewing club supplies.
North Routt Community Charter School $1,850. To purchase four sewing machines and supplies to add a sewing class for 4th to 8th grade students (48 students).
Steamboat Symphony Orchestra $2,000. Support to fund the purchase of 10 beginner violins for Steamboat Symphony Orchestra’s String Sprouts program. The program provides free, high quality strings instruction to children 6-8 years old for five years.
Steamboat Soccer Club $2,000. For replacement goal net costs and new small-sided goals for Hayden, Craig, South Routt, Boys & Girls Clubs and local schools. The new equipment will benefit 800 youth players involved in Steamboat Soccer Club.
Steamboat Springs High School $2,000. To purchase a new cyclorama (large curtain or wall) for the Steamboat Springs High School theater. Current one is badly damaged. This new cyclorama will benefit 100 theater students, local dance performers, and thousands of community members.
South Routt Elementary School $2,000. To purchase pottery equipment and supplies to add pottery instruction to art program at school for mental and emotional benefits. The equipment is expected to last 10 years and will be used by all students (160 students) as well as faculty and teachers.
Steamboat Skating Club $2,000. Help fund the purchase of two pieces of equipment: (1) Axel Training Spinner and (2) Champion Skating Harness. This will the skating club to add off-ice training sessions for their athletes to learn and refine technical skills. The Steamboat Skating Club currently has 50 skaters ages 5-16 years of age.
Routt County Council on Aging $1,840. Funds to replenish half of the 320 reusable meal trays for their Meals On Wheels program. These new reusable meal trays have a life expectancy of about two years. RCCOA’s Meals On Wheels program currently serves approximately 90 clients per day.
Yampa Valley High School $500. To help fund a hands on learning experience through a field trip to Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The field trip will be focused on content development and career development for 28 students ranging from 9th to 12th graders.
