New scam alert, from Hayden Police. Residents are receiving phone calls asking them to verify their bank account and then do a Venmo transfer as part of the process. Never send money to someone you don’t know and watch out for those fake phone calls.

Steamboat Police says there is a fake page called HopeFundMe.org that has been set up to take donations for the family of Matt Johnson. It was cloned from the GoFundMe page. Be careful of where you make that donation.

Wolves were discussed again at Thursday’s Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting, held in Lamar. Director Jeff Davis said new staff is being hired and a Range Rider program is being set up and they are keeping ranchers informed on what is happening when the next wolves are introduced from British Columbia.

“Our ranchers are good people and we just want to make sure we have the tools and programs in place to help them, so we’re committed to that.”

Davis says CPW is very close to having a definition of Chronic Depredation. It’s at the Attorney General’s office for review.

CPW also announced that Rio Blanco County is no longer one of the counties being considered for the release of the next wolves coming from British Columbia. Here is why, according to Deputy Director of Policy, Reid Dewalt.

“That really had to do with the limited number of release sites in that county, the proximity of the livestock of those release sites and that elevation of the risk of conflict, and also the impacts that we’ve had on wintering elk, due to the severe winter we had a couple of winters ago.”

There is much more on the wolf issue on our website.
