Saturday, Nov. 23, is Opening Day for the 2024-2025 Season.
Christy Peak Express will start spinning for skiing and riding starting at 8:30 a.m.
“There’s nothing quite like the exhilaration of Opening Day,” said Dave Hunter, president and COO of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “All the hard work that goes into the off-season and the anticipation for the winter to come all comes together in this celebration. This winter’s mild La Nina forecast looks favorable for Steamboat and everyone on our team is excited to get the season kicked off and start sliding on snow!”
Guests can ski and ride on 10 trails, including Sitz, Jess’ Cutoff, Vogue, Boulevard, Right O-Way, Skidaddle, Stampede and more, plus a “pocket terrain park” on Stampede, all accessible via Christie Peak Express.
“This is a traditional opening for the resort,” said Hunter. “The new snowmaking and Wild Blue Gondola going all the way to Sunshine Peak means we can open that popular terrain earlier than ever, and our teams are working hard to get it ready for skiing and riding, but it’s not quite there yet. I think folks will be pleasantly surprised with how soon we can have that open.”
Greenhorn Ranch and Two Whoops carpet will be accessible via lower Wild Blue Gondola for first-time skiers and riders, and students of Steamboat SnowSports School; a lift ticket is required to load Wild Blue Gondola unless a non-skiing parent is accompanying a child to a lesson.
Uphill access is still not available.
Skeeter’s Rink will be open from 3-6 p.m. each day. Rentals, retail and Creekside lockers are available in Steamboat Square. Dining is available at The Range, Timber & Torch, and T&T Grill.
The Steamboat Grand Hotel is also now open after a summer of improvements including infrastructure improvements, amenities upgrades and new room furniture. The Grand Pool and Fitness Center, Cabin Restaurant and all new Grand Market are open daily.
The weather forecast through Thanksgiving calls for cold temperatures and light snow so snowmaking will continue, but there could be some high winds.
Here’s more of what to expect on opening day.
Free Opening Day T-shirt designed by Ohana and Smartwool Socks for the first 100 skiers/riders in line.
7:30 – 8:30 a.m. – Complimentary Powder Day Donuts and Korbel Mimosas (while supplies last)
8:29 a.m. – The countdown to the official start of the 2024-25 season and ringing of the Champagne Powder ® Snow Bell
2:15 p.m. – Donation presentation to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club on the Steamboat Stage
2:30 p.m. – Free Concert on the Steamboat Stage featuring Heavy Diamond Ring. The band brings a helping of contemporary indie-folk that goes down easy, augmented by some subtle, snaky guitar work, walls of harmony vocals and Anderson’s attention-grabbing vocal. They are the sound behind Steamboat’s advertising campaign “The Steamboat Way.”
Prizes on the mountain will be hidden throughout the day. Stay tuned to @SteamboatResort on Instagram for clues to finding prizes like Ohana Opening Day shirts, Smartwool stashes and WinterWonderGrass Tickets.
