All-Star outfielder Juan Soto is trading in his NY Yankee pinstripes and has agreed to a record 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets. Soto joins a Mets lineup that includes All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor, first baseman Mark Vientos, left fielder Brandon Nimmo, and all-Star first baseman Pete Alonso, who remains a free agent.

Sources told ESPN that the deal, which includes a $75 million signing bonus and no deferred funds, will become official when Soto passes a physical. Soto, 26, could increase the total value of the contract to more than $800 million if he chooses to decline an opt out clause after five years, which will increase his annual salary from $51 million to $55 million. Soto’s new deal is also the longest contract in MLB history, passing Fernando Tatis’ 14-year, $340 million contract with the San Diego Padres.

Soto was traded the by the Nationals to the San Diego Padres in 2022, joining the Yankees through a 2023 trade from the Padres. He itting .285 with 201 home runs and 592 RBIs through his first seven seasons. Over 157 games for the Yankees last season, the outfielder hit .288 with a career-high 41 home runs and 109 RBIs, and scored an American League-best 128 runs, as well as his fourth All-Star selection.
