Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Complex earns Premier Facility designation by USTA

Out of the thousands of tennis facilities in the country, the US Tennis Association has designated 50 with Premier status

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Steamboat Springs, Colorado (December 11, 2024) The Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Complex is pleased to announce that it has been designated a Premier Facility by the United States Tennis Association. Out of thousands of tennis facilities in the country, the US Tennis Association has designated just 50 facilities nationwide with Premier status, a prestigious and coveted designation in the racquet sport industry.

“We are humbled to receive the prestigious and coveted Premier Facility designation,” said Jason Scicchitano, Director of Tennis, Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Complex. “We are very excited about the future of our beloved tennis center and for the lifelong sport of tennis in Steamboat Springs.”

Scicchitano attended the USTA summit in Orlando, Florida, in November, where the Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Complex was honored as a Premier Facility. Qualifying criteria to receive the designation include USTA Member Organization, Safe Play approved coaches, full-time pros certified by PTR and/or USPTA, positive Customer Experience protocol, dedicated website and online registration availability, loaner racquet and equipment availability, and proven engagement in community and partnerships.

While the Steamboat Springs Tennis Complex has served the Steamboat Springs community for over 30 years, previously winning several national USTA and industry awards for the quality of its facilities, programs, coaching and customer service, its recent Premier Facility designation is a testament to its reputation as a leading nonprofit public sports complex nationwide. Despite the Tennis Center receiving its Premier designation again, the facility is in dire need of renovations that the nonprofit has been actively fundraising for.

Cost estimates to renovate the Tennis Center are between $2M – $3M, with needed repairs including replacing the exterior Tennis membrane that was installed in 2005, replacing the HVAC system, failed insulation and lighting, resurfacing indoor tennis courts, and refreshing the Welcome Center, including front desk area, pro shop, locker rooms, and mezzanine.

In addition to participating in the recent Yampa Valley/Colorado Gives Day, the Steamboat Springs Tennis and Pickleball Complex has a fundraising campaign running, Courting Love, to refresh the Tennis Center, complete with a year-end, double-your-impact “Match”. Thanks to anonymous donors, the Courting Love “Match” means that every dollar donated to Courting Love will be doubled through the end of the year. To donate, visit www.steamboattennisandpickleball.com/match. Donors may earmark their donation to Tennis, Pickleball, or Youth Programming specifically.

On Monday, December 16, from 3-5 PM, the Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Complex will host an “Après Ski” Town Hall-style event, open to the public, to discuss the future of the Tennis Center, followed by a Q&A. The event takes place at the Tennis Center Mezzanine located at 2500 Pine Grove Road, and the public is welcome to attend.

About

With a mission to enrich the lives of Steamboat Springs’ area residents and visitors of all ages, abilities, and socio-economic groups through pickleball and tennis, the Steamboat Springs Tennis and Pickleball Complex is nationally acclaimed as a public recreational treasure for its facilities and programs. The complex features six indoor and six outdoor tennis courts, two pro shops, and 6 outdoor and 12 indoor, year-round pickleball courts. In July, the complex opened its doors to a new, 35,000sq ft Pickleball Center, and is still servicing a $5M loan. Now, with the Courting Love campaign underway to refresh the Tennis Center, there is no better time to support this extraordinary nonprofit organization.
