Routt County Commissioner Timothy V. Corrigan Awarded for Distinguished Service
Routt County, CO, December 11, 2024 – Routt County Commissioner Timothy V. Corrigan was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the Colorado Counties, Inc (CCI) Winter Conference.
CCI is a non-profit, membership association whose purpose is to offer assistance to county commissioners, mayors and council members and to encourage counties to work together on common issues. Each year at the Winter Conference, they award one member with the Distinguished Service Award. In determining the recipient of this award each year, the Awards Committee looks at length of service as a commissioner and their contributions to CCI over time. The award recipient has a long tenure in county government and other public service and has served on numerous CCI committees and taskforces. The commissioner receiving the CCI Distinguished Service Award is universally recognized for unselfish service and often “sets the standard” by which CCI members can measure accomplishments and commitment. This year there were two individuals awarded.
Routt County Commissioner Sonja Macys was proud to lead the charge and nominate Commissioner Corrigan for his dedication over the last three terms. “It is an honor to nominate him for CCI’s Distinguished Service Award. I have benefitted from Tim’s generosity of spirit in mentoring new Commissioners, as have those in the CCI network, and hardworking candidates wishing to become County Commissioners. We will truly miss Tim’s unique blend of effective public service, solid sense humor, and strange dislike for hot air balloons,” she wrote in his nomination.
His nomination continued to describe his active participation in CCI’s Steering Committee meetings, as well as serving on CCI’s Public Lands Committee. He consistently bridges the bipartisan divide with a sense of humility and humor, even during challenging and divisive times.
In addition, Commissioner Corrigan offers his time and expertise to other committees of importance to counties, including serving as one of CCI’s four Special Highway Committee Members on the Off-System Bridge Program. He also serves on the Colorado Counties Casualty & Property Pool (CAPP) Board of CTSI, helping to protect the assets of counties throughout Colorado through broad coverage, risk management, and sound fiscal management.
John Swartout, Former Executive Director of CCI, commented on Commissioner Corrigan’s role in the management of Greater Sage Grouse, “I worked with Commissioner Corrigan on many issues over the last decade. He has been a key player in finding the middle ground on contentious issues and allowing CCI to speak with one voice. His work has helped keep the Greater Sage Grouse off the Endangered Species List and land use under the control of local governments. He always finds the way to get Commissioners to focus on their common interest and not on the issues that divide them. He is exactly the kind of Commissioner the Distinguished Service Award was created for.”
Commissioner Corrigan is the 13th Commissioner representing District 1 in Routt County and announced in July of 2023 that he would not seek re-election for a fourth term. Corrigan was elected in 2012 and first sworn into office on January 8, 2013. He has served for three consecutive terms alongside Commissioners Doug Monger (District 2), Steve Ivancie (District 3), Cari Hermacinski (District 3), and Beth Melton (District 3). Currently, he serves with Tim Redmond (District 2) and Sonja Macys (District 3).
Congratulations to Commissioner Corrigan on this deserved award!
