YVMC recognized as Best Hospital for Maternity Care
UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center was recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report (USNWR) as one of the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy), earning the highest possible designation of “High Performing.”
The evaluation looked at hospital data relating to quality, such as C-section delivery rates, overall unexpected severe newborn complication rates, routine vaginal birth after cesarean delivery rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, episiotomy rates, whether each hospital met new federal criteria for “birthing-friendly” practices, and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities.
“This incredible recognition highlights the focus that an entire team of health care providers at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center has on maternal care in Northwest Colorado,” said Edie Seffrood, nurse manager of the birth center and special care nursey at YVMC. “So many individuals walk alongside and support women and their families during a pregnancy and delivery – physicians and certified nurse midwives; nurses in the clinic, labor and delivery, and postpartum areas; phlebotomists; diagnostic medical sonographers; and pediatricians, neonatal nurse practitioners and nurses in our special care nursery. Working in this field is truly a labor of love, and we are honored deliver such care to our patients.”
YVMC was one of 11 hospitals in Colorado recognized as “High Performing” and has received the honor since 2021 when the project first launched.
