The outdoor sheet of ice at the Howelsen Hill tennis courts opens for the winter season on Saturday, Dec. 14. This is for ice skating or hockey. Here’s Howelsen Ice Arena Recreation Supervisor, Nick Carelli.
“It’s the Howelsen Ice Arena, and the crew members there that it has become a passion project of ours. We like to offer a different type of skating outside. With the snow falling and Howelsen Hill in the background, it’s magical spot that we believe the community really enjoys. Kids, adults, and all ages alike.”
The ice is available from 5-10 p.m., seven days a week, and it is weather dependent. The rink is free to use. It’s 54′ wide by 100′ long.
Bring your own skates. But if you need skates, there is a “Skate Library” inside the lobby at Howelsen Ice Arena where you can get skates to use on the outdoor sheet.
The city is also asking users to please shovel the sheet after use to help the maintenance crew with ice and facility upkeep.
This is a recreational amenity provided by the City of Steamboat Springs. Skate at your own risk.
