Colorado State Patrol has sent word that troopers in Routt, Moffat, and Grand counties will be doing a DUI enforcement operation on Friday, Dec. 20. It is a multi-agency operation to ensure roads in Northwest Colorado are safe for the holiday season. Trooper, officers, and deputies will increase enforcement of driving violations that are indicators of impaired driving, such as speeding, lane violations, and aggressive driving. Colorado State Patrol also reminds everyone to always wear your seatbelt, and never get behind the wheel drunk or high.

Colorado Department of Transportation also says to expect a heavy influx of drivers on Colorado roads during the holidays, especially on the I-70 mountain corridor.
Funeral services have been announced for Ervin and Arloa Gerber of Craig. A visitation for family and friends is from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Grant Mortuary. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Moffat County High School auditorium. The burial will follow at Craig Cemetery. The Gerbers died as a result of a crash on Hwy 40 on Dec. 5. Their daughter-in-law also died. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Moffat County Cattlewomen and Jr. Livestock Sale Foundation.

Rock Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brita Horn has been honored by United States Congressman Joe Neguse as the Volunteer of the Year for the 2nd Congressional District. It is for her role in securing a $1.3 million grant for recruitment for rural fire departments.

Santa is making a stop at Victory Motors in Craig. He’ll be at the dealership from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, and then again from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Kids can also drop off letters to Santa this week at Victory Motors.
A Holiday Craft Party is from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at The Hayden Center. It’s presented by Hayden Youth Action Council. There is a gingerbread house contest and lots of changes to win some gift cards. This is free, for kids ages 12-18. There will be food and drinks for the kids as well. Questions? Santa is busy.
Holiday Balloon Glow at the base, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Weather Dependent. Stroll among the standing balloons at the base. Enjoy some food and dinner at Timber & Torn, or The Range Food and Beverage Hall. Santa Claus is coming to Hayden. West Routt Fire will escort Santa on the fire truck around Hayden starting at 4 p.m. this Saturday, December 21. This is themap of the neighborhoods that Santa will visit.
Ski and Skate with Santa at Yampa River State Park, 6185 Highway 40, west of Hayden. Bring your skis and skates for some outdoor fun during the holiday season. Or you can borrow some there. Or bring snowshoes. Santa Claus will be stopping by. The outdoor event will feature a holiday lighted ski trail through the woods, ice skating under the spot lights, a bonfire, hot chocolate and plenty of holiday cheer. Meet the Grinch! He’ll be doing some shopping in the LIftUP Thrift Store from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and this Monday, Dec. 23.
Yampa’s Christmas Celebration is from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21. Enjoy sledding on Patty’s Hill, cookie decorating at the Yampa Garage, with BBQ and biscuits. SPORTS
Anabel Ayad with Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club has qualified for the Junior World Championships in moguls. Junior Worlds are in Kazakstan at the beginning of January. Ayad is a 2023 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School.

The Steamboat Sailors Hockey Team is on the road today and tomorrow, with an afternoon game against Cheyenne Mountain today, and a Saturday morning game against CSD11.
