Wildhorse Movie Theater in Steamboat Springs is being transformed to also host live performances. The local group Undiscovered Earth has announced a new collaboration with the Wildhorse Steamboat Movie Theater, starting Feb. 1. The theatre will offer more diverse entertainment and events for the local community. Two of the theaters will be outfitted with stages and enhanced lighting systems to accommodate live performances, which are expected to start by March at the latest.
Movies, including new releases, classic movies, art movies, and movies chosen by the community and local nonprofits, will still be available at the theater.
The three-to-five year vision for Wildhorse Cinemas is to purchase the building and transform it into a center for the performing arts with movie theaters as well.
U.S. Forest Service offices in the region are making some changes.
In Steamboat Springs, it’s the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District Office on Weiss Drive, across from Holiday Inn. Hours are going to be adjusted when it is open, and then it is scheduled to be closed to the public beginning in mid-February until further notice. Here’s Aaron Voos with the Forest Service.
“Pretty simple. This is just a heads up to the public and our partners that we’re going to have a change in February because the person that we have staffing the front desk right now is leaving and we do not have a replacement. More details to come. We know this vacancy is going to occur, so we’re just giving people a heads up about what will happen because of it.”
Voos says any things like firewood permits and day-use passes can be purchased online. One option is at recreation.gov. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife offices there will still be open and available. Call 970-870-2299 for information.
The Parks Ranger District in Walden is closed to the public until further notice. Call 970-723-2700 for more information. Forest Service offices in Yampa have public availability, but it is recommended to call for operational Hours. That number is 970-638-4516.
More information is on the US Forest Service website and social media pages.

Everyone is invited for a Chanukah Festival and Grand Menorah Lighting on the lawn of the historic Routt County Courthouse. It’s today from 3:30-5 p.m. Rabbi Isaac Abelsky says Chanukah is a holiday that symbolizes doing acts of goodness and kindness.
“Everyone should come. It will be fun. It will be exciting. And most important thing is, it will be a festival with everyone joining in, adding in warmth and light, and good in this world.”
There will be an ice Menorah carved at the event, along with local fire trucks throwing chocolate coins from up on the ladder. There will be music, donuts, latkes, hot cocoa and apple cider. The event is free.
Also today any active-duty military members and their families in the Yampa Valley are invited to a Holiday Homecoming hosted by The Veterans Center. This includes any high school seniors who are planning to go into the military upon graduation. Family members are invited even if their military member is not home so they can receive a Blue Flag Banner. The event is from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.
