Santa may have come and gone, but now it is visitors making their way to the Yampa Valley. Yampa Valley Regional Airport had 15 nonstop flights scheduled for Wednesday, the day after Christmas. Inbound flights were booked at a 95% load factor with 2,023 passengers arriving into the regional airport in Hayden. The number of those flying out of the Yampa Valley was at 1,434 on Wednesday.
On Saturday, there is a Hanukkah celebration at the base of Steamboat Resort. Join the Jewish community of Steamboat Springs in a celebration of the Festival of Lights. It starts at 3 p.m. It’s called “Eight Nights of Shred,” and you’ll see the new Snowboard Menorah created by Randy Salky. Everyone is invited.
A new band is releasing their new album Saturday night at Old Town Pub. The band is a southern rock country band called “Alan Duty and the Lost Rangers.” Ryan Hoffman, Alan Duty, and Darren Halik are all graduates of Steamboat Springs High School and the met playing hockey for the Sailors. Here’s Darren.
“Alan and I met when he was 14 and I was 15 playing JV hockey at SSHS and then Ryan and I met dressing in the parking because it was COVID at the ice rink. That would have been my junior year, his senior year.”
That’s when they all found out they liked Texas country music so they formed the band. The fourth member, Drew Turnipseed, is from Mobile, Alabama.
Alan and Drew go to Auburn in Alabama, Ryan goes to Montana State, and Darren studies at The Blackbird Academy in Nashville.
The band is together four months out of the year during the holidays and summers in Steamboat Springs.
Their debut album is called “Nicotine and Daydreams.”
The band is at Old Town Pub Saturday and then Slopeside on Jan. 6.

Skate with the Grinch and the Steamboat Skating Club, from 5-7 p.m. at Howelsen Ice Arena, Saturday, Dec. 28. Dress in holiday festive attire. Cost is $12/person or $40 for a family of four. The price includes skate rental. All ages are welcome. Hot dogs, cookies, and hot cocoa will be served. This is a fundraiser for the Steamboat Skating Club.
The Colorado Buffaloes are playing the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl, on Saturday, Dec. 28. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. in San Antonio. Listen to the game on 105.7 and 97.7 KTYV Sports on FM.
The Phippsburg Community Thrift Store is closed and will re-open Jan. 9.
The Meeker SkiJoring, scheduled for early next month has been canceled. Organizers says it’s because of lack of snow. They will still have their New Year’s evening of music and dancing.
In U.S. Ski Team news, the ski jumping team is in Germany for the World Cup. Siblings Erik and Annika Belshaw from Steamboat Springs are listed as starters.
