Press Release from Colorado Northwestern Community College; Jan. 13, 2025.

CNCC Announces Cancellation of 2025 Softball Season

Rangely, CO – Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) has made the difficult decision to cancel its 2025 softball season. This decision was made with the well-being, health, and safety of our student-athletes as the top priority. CNCC remains fully committed to rebuilding the Spartan softball program in a way that ensures long-term success and fosters a positive and supportive environment for all players.

“Our goal is to always do what is best for our student-athletes,” said Athletic Director Zach Stevenson. “After careful consideration, we determined that this decision was necessary to ensure that we provide a safe, competitive, and positive experience for our softball team moving forward. This is about doing what is right for our students and setting the foundation for a brighter future.”

CNCC is actively working to recruit a new head coach who will bring leadership, positivity, and a strong vision for the program. The college is dedicated to rebuilding a competitive softball program that reflects the values of teamwork, perseverance, and academic and athletic excellence.

Looking ahead, CNCC is excited to return to the field for the 2026 season with a full roster and a renewed focus. The Spartans will use this time to ensure the program is fully prepared for success in the years to come.

“Softball has a proud tradition here at CNCC, and we are excited about the future of the program,” Stevenson added. “This time of transition is an opportunity for us to ensure we are building something truly special—a program our student-athletes, campus, and community can be proud of.”

CNCC would like to thank its student-athletes, supporters, and the Spartan community for their understanding and continued support during this time. The college is confident that the softball program will come back stronger than ever, ready to compete at the highest level and provide an outstanding experience for future players.
