A vehicle crashed into the front corner of Lyons Drug early Tuesday morning Steamboat Springs Police Sergeant Evan Noble says it is being investigated as a medical issue. The driver was taken to the hospital. The Lyons Drug building is known as the Maxwell/Squire Building. It was built in 1908. Steamboat Police are investigating.
Water and wastewater rates are going up in the City of Steamboat Springs. A Utility Rate Study showed the need for a rate adjustment. Distribution & Collection Manager Michelle Carr says, “The increase reflects our ongoing effort to balance operational costs with the need to sustain long-term improvements in infrastructure, technology, and service delivery.” The city has a Low-Income and Senior Utility Rate Program which can provide 50 percent discounts.
Retiring Steamboat Springs City Manager Gary Suiter was pleasantly surprised Tuesday night when Steamboat Springs City Council made a proclamation that it is Gary Suiter Day. It was Suiter’s last meeting before retiring after nine years, and over 300 council meetings with the City of Steamboat Springs. Suiter thanked all past and present council members, city staff, and the community.
“Thank you very much. This is a complete surprise and I’m very, very grateful for everybody’s support and it’s just been a great ride, so thank you, God bless, and we will see you around town.”

The Routt County Board of County Commissioners have a Work Session Wednesday. They’ll be discussing the priorities for Routt County in 2025.
The history of Steamboat Springs is being discussed at a Community Open House, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. The Historic Preservation Plan is “Building on History, Growing with Vision.” It’s at the new City Hall on 10th Street. All are invited.
Yampa Valley Sustainability Council is celebrating community members and groups who have helped with local climate action, with the 2024 Sustainability Awards Ceremony. It’s at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Bud Werner Memorial Library.
In Craig, there is an art show celebrating local artists at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the 2nd floor of the Yampa Building. (775 Yampa Ave.) The reception in the Articulture Gallery is to celebrate the newest art show with the Northwest Colorado Arts Council and local artists in Northwest Colorado. Everyone is welcome.
