CASEY’S POND THRIVING AFTER FIRST 120 DAYS OF NEW OWNERSHIP
(STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO, January 27, 2025) – Under new ownership since October 1, 2024, Casey’s Pond is thriving and growing. The first order of business for the new owners was to stabilize the senior living community, both in retaining critical staff and rebuilding its resident population.
“Before the closure notices went out in August 2024, Casey’s Pond was home to 129 residents,” said Stephanie Einfeld, CEO of Northwest Colorado Health, a nonprofit 501(c)(3). “The day the purchase agreement was signed, that number had decreased to a low of 110. Today, we are excited to share that we have restabilized occupancy, with 126 current residents. Additionally, we have been able to retain most staff members, and any open positions have already been filled. Casey’s Pond is not just surviving; it is thriving thanks to the staff and residents who were willing to stay and to the generous support of our community.”
The resident population is growing at a steady pace and even includes some individuals who moved back in after the purchase. These numbers outpace the expected timeline for stabilization and are an excellent indicator that the senior living community will be sustainable for the long-term, providing critical housing and healthcare services for residents of the Yampa Valley as they face medical challenges or strive to age in place within the community.
The Advisory Committee, established as a subcommittee of Northwest Colorado Health’s Board, continues to meet regularly. This engaged group of industry experts acts as ambassadors of Casey’s Pond and advises on matters relating to the senior living community while also approving grants from the Save Casey’s Pond Fund held at Yampa Valley Community Foundation (YVCF). The Advisory Committee consists of three Northwest Colorado Health board members, the CEO and vice chair of YVCF, and four members of the broader community with relevant experience in law, business, and health care policy and systems management.
A mention in The New York Times highlighted Casey’s Pond’s successful community-wide fundraising campaign led by the Yampa Valley Community Foundation – an effort that is all but unheard of in the industry. “In Steamboat Springs, Colo., a [continuing care retirement community] called Casey’s Pond entered court-ordered receivership last summer. Since sold to a nonprofit health care system, it will continue operations — but only after two municipalities, a local foundation and hundreds of community members raised $30 million to rescue it.” For more information on Casey’s Pond availability and services, go to caseyspond.org.
