The continuance of Zero Hour at Steamboat Springs High School next year is being discussed at a School Accountability Meeting (SAC) at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon in the SSHS library. Zero Hour is where school starts an hour earlier than normal and students are allowed to take that early class if they are on a skier schedule, or play hockey or basketball, or take classes at CMC. It lets them get out earlier. Principal Jay Hamric says it will be discussed at the meeting but that many factors have been considered, “as we approach academics and best serving our whole student community.”
Hamric told Steamboat Radio News, “We are reimagining our school day to support an environment where all students have access to rigorous courses and talented staff throughout the day.”
One parent created a survey for parents that included comments from over 230 students, parents, teachers, and coaches asking that it be continued.
