Geomar Gregory Gomez-Hernandez bonded out of the Moffat County Jail on $150K bond on Sunday. He was arrested Dec. 26, on charges of the fuel theft, reckless driving, fictitious plates, and more. Two Moffat County Sheriff vehicles were damaged and three officers were injured.

Victoriano Cayetano-Leon was arrested in Steamboat Springs Dec. 13. He is nowin an ICE facility in Aurora, which is U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending deportation to Mexico.


In an incident Dec. 5, David Caboverde and Osnel Perez Palacio are still in the Routt County Jail on multiple charges, pending court dates in February.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were in Oak Creek Wednesday for a multi-jurisdictional operation. Routt County Sheriff Doug Scherar says the sheriff’s office focuses on local traffic enforcement there every four to six weeks. Hayden Police helped this week, but sometimes it is Steamboat Police or Colorado State Patrol. There were no arrests but there were some traffic violations.

One lane will be closed on Hwy 40 at 13th Street through the weekend, for a fire hydrant leak. The ground has to be thawed before the repair work can be done.
Wildhorse Movie Theater is closing Friday, Jan. 31, and will reopen Feb. 12, for cleaning and renovations. The theater is being transformed for films and live performances and gatherings, run by Undiscovered Earth. A few things are needed for the lobby, including furniture, artwork, vintage posters and anything equestrian themed. All donations receive a tax donation receipt. The Eco Club at Steamboat Springs High School is having a Snowman Climate Protest on the Routt County Courthouse Lawn at 3:30 p.m. Hot cocoa and snowman supplies will be provided.

It is scholarship season in the Yampa Valley where scholarships are being offered by members of the community, nonprofits and businesses. This is in Routt and Moffat counties. Scholarships are available as of Saturday, Feb. 1, through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, which works with private donors and groups. Last year, 135 students in both counties received scholarships of more than $578,000.
Scholarships are for musicians, athletes, volunteers, first-generation students, Hispanic students, and for those pursuing healthcare, veterinary medicine or a trade. There is also a new Northwest Colorado Trade Scholarship.

The Boys & Girls Club in Steamboat Springs has movie night tonight for high school kids. It starts at 7 p.m. The movie is Pitch Perfect.
The 3rd Annual State of the Snowpack event is at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. It’s with Colorado Avalanche Information Center. This community event will include a snowpack update from a CAIC forecaster, motorized avalanche awareness presentations, backcountry safety stories from Routt County SAR, and more! A donation of $10 is suggested for entry. Members of Friends of CAIC receive one free entry and a door prize ticket.

Ski for Parkinson’s is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, at Haymaker Nordic Center. This year’s theme is “Outta this world.” Sponsored by Parkinson Association of the Rockies.
The annual Groundhog Day Dinner is from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, in the Yampa Ladies Aid Hall. (It ends when the food runs out.) Enjoy all-you-can-eat Biscuits & Gravy, sausage, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, coleslaw, ice cream, and cookies. It’s $8 for adults. Children 5-11 years old are $4. Kids under four are free. To-go meals are available. The Groundhog Day Dinner is presented by the Yampa-Egeria Historical Society.

The Steamboat Sailors Basketball teams host Delta tonight. The girls take to the court at 5:30 p.m. and the boys are at 7 p.m. The Sailors also play Coal Ridge at home Saturday afternoon. Listen on KTYV 105.7 Sports on FM and watch through our website.
The Steamboat Sailors Hockey team is away against Battle Mountain tonight.
The Hayden Tigers host Vail Christian tonight and the Soroco Rams host West Grand in basketball.
Moffat County is away tonight, playing Coal Ridge in basketball.
The Meeker Wrestling Tournament is Saturday. Those local teams in the tournament are the Hayden Tigers, Steamboat Sailors, Moffat County Bulldogs, and Soroco Rams.
