Jackson County Clerk Hayle Johnson was elected as president of the group.
Press Release from Lynn Bartels with the Colorado County Clerks Association; Feb. 5, 2025.
Routt County Clerk Jenny Thomas’ peers elected her to serve as vice president of the Colorado County Clerks Association.
She took the oath of office on Jan. 29, during the clerks’ winter conference in Colorado Springs.
‘I am very passionate about the operations of our office and the services we provide to our community,” she said, in an interview afterward.
“From Motor Vehicles to Recording to Elections to Vital Records, there’s a lot that goes into running one of the busiest offices in the county. It starts with having a top-notch team, who pride themselves on the work we do, the services we provide, and how we provide those services.”
Also, Jackson County Clerk Hayle Johnson took over as association president after her predecessor, Boulder County Clerk Molly Fitzpatrick, told clerks they might want to forget 2024, but to remember it despite the threats, nastiness and misinformation.
“The story of 2024 should be one of solidarity and character. Throughout it all, we supported each other despite county size or political party,” Fitzpatrick said in her farewell address.
“We responded, we adapted and we got the job done.”
As part of the executive committee, Thomas likely will serve as president of the CCCA at one point.
“It is a humbling experience when I think about the clerks before me and the clerks around me. I hope to learn as much as I can from all of them,” Thomas said.
“Every Colorado county is unique, and each clerk knows his or her county best. This is what makes attending the conference so great. It’s a
chance to learn not just from the State of Colorado and the Department of Revenue but also from other counties and share information and processes on all the things our offices are responsible for.”
Thomas started her career in the Routt County Clerk and Recorder’s Office in 2013 when Kay Weinland hired her to work in Motor Vehicle. When Kim Bonner was clerk, she moved Thomas to the Elections Division. Bonner retired in 2022, and commissioners appointed Thomas to serve out her term. That year, voters elected Thomas as clerk.
