A 26-year-old teacher at Young Tracks Preschool and Day Care Center in Steamboat Springs is out on a $1,500 Personal Recognizance bond, after being arrested by Steamboat Springs Police Friday, Feb. 7. Alma Amparan Montes was arrested on three counts of child abuse. A press release from the City of Steamboat Springs says she has been a teacher at Young Tracks for about five years.
Steamboat Springs Police opened the criminal investigation after receiving information from the Routt County Department of Human Services about a teacher at Young Tracks suspected of physically abusing children at the school. Investigators do not believe it to be sexual abuse. Steamboat Springs Police Chief Mark Beckett says the investigation right now is determining the scope of the allegations.
Chief Beckett also says they are working with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood to determine options and alternatives that are available for other day care in the Steamboat Springs community.

Montes has a court date for a Status Conference on Tuesday in Routt County Court.

The Young Tracks website says: Young Tracks is a Colorado Licensed, Quality rated, Early Learning center in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, serving families with Infants, Toddlers, and Pre School aged children.
The age range for Youth Tracks is two months to six years, serving children in six classrooms.
All persons accused of crimes are presumed innocent until and unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

Case Involves Multiple Young Victims And Remains Under Investigation
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-February 8, 2025-The Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) opened a criminal investigation after receiving information from the Routt County Department of Human Services (DHS) about a teacher at Young Tracks Preschool and Day Care Center suspected of physically abusing children at the school.
SSPD received the notification from DHS on Thursday, February 6, 2025, and immediately began investigating. SSPD worked with DHS to complete numerous interviews leading to probable cause for the arrest of Alma Amparan Montes.
The following day, Friday, February 7, officers arrested Montes on three counts of child abuse. Montes has been a teacher at Young Tracks for approximately five years.
“We are heartbroken for the children and families involved and will continue to fight tirelessly for the safety of those most vulnerable in our community,” said Police Chief Mark Beckett.
This case involves multiple young victims and is still under investigation. Currently, investigators believe the abuse to be physical and not sexual.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-8 de febrero de 2025-El Departamento de Policía de Steamboat Springs (SSPD) abrió una investigación criminal después de recibir información del Departamento de Servicios Humanos del Condado de Routt (DHS) sobre un profesor de la guardería y preescolar Young Tracks sospechoso de abusar físicamente de los niños de la escuela.
El SSPD recibió la notificación del DHS el jueves 6 de febrero de 2025 e inmediatamente comenzó a investigar. El SSPD trabajó con el DHS para completar numerosas entrevistas que condujeron a una causa probable para el arresto de Alma Amparan Montes.
Al día siguiente, viernes 7 de febrero, los oficiales arrestaron a Montes por tres cargos de abuso infantil. Montes ha sido maestra en Young Tracks durante aproximadamente cinco años.
